Bella Hadid Talks ’90s Watches, Social Media & Painting Pottery With Gigi

Take one look at Bella Hadid’s Instagram grid and it’s pretty easy to see she’s living her best life right now.

Whether hanging out on a yacht in Monaco for the Grand Prix, walking in Alexander Wang’s debut Collection 1 show with fellow supermodel Kaia Gerber, or stepping out in head-to-toe leopard print for a night out with sister Gigi, the jetsetting face of a generation and TAG Heuer ambassador is almost too fabulous.

We caught up with the Instagram sensation to find out her secrets to living life in the fabulous lane…

1. Turn Flight Time Into Facial Time

“Iā€™m going to be on a plane about 12 times in the next two weeks for work, so I always take my entire skincare routine in my carry on.

“I’ll start with a hyaluronic acid serum, then do a sheet mask, then apply my night cream. While that’s on I’ll make my seat into a bed, order a glass of red wine and put a movie on. I watched Molly’s Game the other day but I fell asleep with 45 minutes to go so I haven’t seen the end! When I wake up, I’ll use a cold towel and re-apply my serum and face cream all over again.”

2. Wear Whatever Makes You Feel Like A Woman

“I was never a big fan of massive watches but I really love the TAG Heuer Monaco. I love a square face, and of course, I love diamonds! It’s not a casual watch at all but I love having it on my wrist, it makes me feel like a woman. And the ’90s style is very my energy, darling! It’s funny that people my age see watches as an extra, I’ve never seen them as something wasn’t totally needed.”

3. Make Time To Hang With Your Fam

“When Gigi and I are together, we just sit and watch cartoons and order loads of takeaway.

“It’s hard for Gigi because there are always so many people outside her apartment so we like to play cards, or make ceramics and paint pottery, then wait until it’s a bit calmer and run down the street. I was always into music and she was into art, so I’ll sit and watch TV while she draws something artistic. I could draw too, but I wouldn’t win any awards for it!

“I love playing video games with my brother. When we were younger he would only hang out with me if we played video games so now I’m obsessed with VR. I did a whole course when I was in Japan where you can go ‘skydiving’.”

4. Diets Are Out

“I visited my friend on her boat when I was in Monaco recently and had a bowl of the most delicious pasta, but I was so tired that I feel asleep before the fish course turned up! I had a nap in the sun wearing my Dior bikini so now Iā€™ve got CD burnt into my back! At least I’m on brand…”

5. Appreciate Your Parents

“I honestly think the best time of my life was when I was in the womb, just being in my mum’s belly was really awesome. I didn’t have to live alone or pay my bills, and it was nice and warm in there!

“When I was growing up, my dad was a massive fan of watches ā€” it wasn’t about fashion, it was just something he would put on every day that was a part of him. I used to steal, I mean, borrow without giving back, his watches all the time. I think in 10 years or so when I decide to have my own family, that will make me very happy. Hopefully, the kids can keep the Hadid name!”

6. Practice Social Media Self Care

“Every morning when I wake up I give myself 30 minutes where I’m not allowed to check my phone. For a while, it would be the first thing I’d check in the morning, and it would completely throw my mind off target, especially when the first thing I would read would be either something somebody I don’t know said about me or something that could possibly hurt my feelings.

“Having that half an hour in the morning gives me time for myself to just lay there and breathe.”

7. Live Life In The Fast Lane

“I’m a very fast driver, but a very good driver, I’d never put anyone at risk. I love fast cars ā€” when I was in Greece I went speed go-karting. It wasn’t quite F1 but it was a start! Maybe I’ll quit my job and start a feminist Formula 1 team ā€” that would be so much fun and such a great achievement.”
