Deciding what to wear as a Queen isn’t easy, so it comes as no surprise that she has an entire floor dedicated to her clothes, shoes and bags. According to former royal butler Paul Burrell, the Queen ‘has to have her outfits brought down to her, all her clothes are kept on the top floor’.
‘Her dresser will bring down in the morning two outfits, which are sketched with pieces of material clipped to them so that the Queen can remember whether it’s silk or cotton or wool,’ he told Yahoo’s Royal Box.
‘The one the Queen picks is the one which is brought downstairs from up above so she doesn’t actually see her wardrobe with clothes in it.’
Royal fashion protocol doesn’t end there, because the Queen will often opt for a brightly coloured coat, hat and dress by her dressmaker Angela Kelly for a very specific reason: so she can be spotted in a crowd. She also always carries a handbag by her favourite designer Launer.
